Major airlines have filed a lawsuit against the federal government over new rules that would require carriers to disclose all airline fees up front. The suit alleges that the Department of Transportation exceeded its authority in announcing the new rule. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced the rule change on April 24, stating that it would save consumers a half billion dollars each year. The airlines argue that the rule will confuse consumers and that the Department of Transportation’s attempt to regulate private business operations is beyond its authority.
